Objective
To provide relevant evaluation of potential disinfection methods against the coronavirus, in case non-standard materials or methods are needed. Efficacy against two enveloped respiratory viruses (hRSV, influenza) will be assessed. Effects of the treatment method on performance of personal protective equipment can also be tested in collaboration with other Georgia Tech labs. Project steps include:
- Virus introduced to the test material.
- Disinfection treatment is applied.
- Any virus that may remain is passaged through host cells overnight to test for its ability to infect.
- Researchers then report the viral load relative to untreated samples and look for greater than four orders of magnitude of reduction for successful disinfection techniques.
