Shofner was coordinating the PPE gown identification on campus with IEN cleanrooms. At some point the State of GA took over the inventory of lab PPE equipment activity.

Nursing homes are challenged by connecting residents with caretakers and family, and it is difficult to track residents’ health status. This team worked to develop an app, CareRing, to keep everyone informed about residents’ needs.

The goal of this project is to provide recommendations to the general public on the best materials for source control and for N95-like masks. Researchers aim to create and test recommended designs for masks and filter materials and publicize the importance of source control, as well as information on how to clean, wear, and store masks.

Support the manufacturing industry in upscaling the production of plastic nasal swabs that go into Covid-19 swab kits. Researchers teamed with Kimberly Clark, connected the company to Puritan Medical Diagnostics, and provided other "learning curve" support. The goal has been to support the manufacturers in soliciting key manufacturing expertise.
