The battle against COVID-19 is a worldwide challenge unlike any in living memory. The Georgia Tech community has joined the fight, contributing our expertise, innovation, and indomitable spirit to the effort. Even as we remain committed to serving our students, faculty, and staff, we have accelerated our advancement of technology in response to our world's new reality.

GCMI is supporting GT to document and manufacture a mechanical barrier that will contain contamination during the intubation process.

Develop a process for sanitizing wipes. RBI connected Seth Marder's team with Chris Luettgen, Associate Director of RBI, who is a critical expert on sanitizing wipes (prior experience with Kimberly Clark). Luettgen is a member of this team now. 

Shofner was coordinating the PPE gown identification on campus with IEN cleanrooms. At some point the State of GA took over the inventory of lab PPE equipment activity.

Work in conjunction with GCMI and the consortium that they have put together to support efforts to quickly mass produce N-95 Respirators for use in hospitals. 

Preparing 3D printing capabilities to help a community-based solution that aims to help with impending PPE shortages (organized by a local industrial engineer, Amanda Hobbs).

To scale production of water jetted face shield components and 3D printed mask/ventilator parts.

GCMI's objective for this project is to design controls, quality controls, manufacturing guidance, etc. for producing face shields.
 

Develop simple, scalable evaluation procedures that can be rapidly deployed to evaluate various proposed routes to sanitize existing N-95 masks, respirators and related medical equipment, thus enabling hospitals to reuse critical medical supplies safely in a pandemic shortage.

To develop an open-source design of the shield, which is easy to mass produce.
